Don’t call it a comeback; I’ve been here for years…

You see that catchy title? It applies both to me, and the topic of my first post back. As you’ve noticed we’re now branching out into what this blog used to be about – all the geek stuff that makes me and Ryan happy.
So if you’re only into games, you’re screwed (and may I add probably without friends).
My first ramblings are about the just released Western 3:10 to Yuma. Don’t know why, but I was really stoked to see this movie. I’ve been catching up on a few of the old spaghetti westerns from back in the day with senior Clint Eastwood, and realizing how awesome those movies are. They’re one of the few genres that actually stand the test of time.
I love those movies, and it’s been a long, long time since Hollywood has made a Western that cool. I read a review by Harry over at AICN that made me desperately want to go see this — so I dragged my girlfriend out to it only to be a little let down.
The story goes a little something like this:
There’s a down on his luck one footed rancher (Dan Evans played by Christian Bale) who takes it upon himself to bring one of the biggest outlaws in the west (Ben Wade played by Russell Crowe) to justice. Said outlaw has a gang that wants to stop that from happening at all cost and as a result we have a tried and true old school western (or at least an attempt at one).
The premise is decent, the movie is a technical marvel but it’s definitely not as good as I’d hoped it would be. I’m pretty sure it’s my own personal hype that may have ruined the film, or it could be….HUGE SPOILER WARNING, invisotext activated to protect you…
…because I’m getting pretty sick of watching the damn hero die!!! Is it too much to ask to have a bad ass hero, who saves the day and lives to tell about it? One who does this all without crying at some point in the movie? Or exploring his sensitive side?
Seriously, the above is really starting to get on my nerves. I blame Ben Affleck for this current trend.
The reviews seem to be good, but I just wasn’t totally into it. Anyone else go see it? How do you feel?

Glad you’re posting again.
Now, are you really going to create categories for every actor? Come on…
