Review: High School Musical: Sing It! (Wii)

I honestly can’t tell you what’s going on lately. The games, for the kids… that, that’s Tony’s job. N-not mine. But here we are, the week after Viva Piñata I’m now doing a review for High School Musical: Sing it!

I guess to an extent, it’s kind of fitting. I have pretty much every karaoke game out there already, and when HSM: Sing It! came along the first thing I thought was, “Goody! Another cheap packed-in USB mic!” Seriously, I have like 8 of these things already. The second thing I thought was, “What’s High School Musical?” I then quickly remembered Vanessa Hudgens, and her contributions to the online celebrity blogs a few months back. No, I’m not going to be posting those pictures here. This is a family site. Right?

Regardless, let’s get on with it. This is really your standard karaoke game (beat and pitch detection) that really hammers on the fact that you have to be a fan of the movies. Every song is from the movies, and if you don’t know them, well you’re screwed.

I’m not going to go on about the bland graphics, the minimal amount of unlockable content for the game (besides songs), or the really short single-player experience, because the main thing that makes a karaoke game playable for long amounts of time with your friends is the songs list. And as I mentioned they’re all from the movies, and there’s only 30 songs total… so I can’t stress enough how important it is that you’re a huge fan of these movies. I for one, am not. Let’s just say the game didn’t remain in my Wii for that long.

At the Press event… SO much fun! :)

So is it worth a buy? Let’s say you’re a 14 year old girl who reads this site (it happens, right?). Well, you better damn well get your parents to put this on your Christmas list. All others besides said parents can please move along now. That is all.
